The Benefits of Therapeutic Petting
Animals have an uncanny way of accepting us for who we are and love us unconditionally. Studies have shown that pet owners, no matter what the pet is, suffer less stress and recover quicker from stress related illness, than those who don't. Simply stroking, touching, and caring for the pet has a calming effect and lowers blood pressure, which may be why more pet owners recover from heart attacks.
For the elderly, pets can fill an emotional and social gap extremely well. Many have lost their loved ones, and are very alone. Those in nursing homes often lack interactive touch, so petting animals and receiving the animals unconditional love and acceptance can greatly improve their quality of life.
For children, animals can begin their journey of learning to care and be responsible for another being, as well as being entertained. Children are delighted by the playful nature of most animals as well as the love and unconditional affection bestowed upon them through interaction. Education is an important part of our "mission" as we share our animal friends. We believe in the power of hands-on learning and tailor our visits to meet your needs. For many families, owning a pet is out of the question. Our farm fills the need to let your children learn and interact with our pets.

About Us
We also bring a select group of animals to schools to educate in the classroom. This is on a volunteer basis subject to availability
Experience the benefit of animal interaction!
Come and participate in one of our hands-on guided tours. Learn all about our rescued animals as you get up close and personal with pigs, goats, horses, alpacas, chickens, etc. Visit with "Butterscotch" and "Pepe" (our soft and cuddly guinea pigs) as well as "Charlie" our famous, award-winning potbelly pig. Our rescue bunnies "Smores" and "Goober" enjoy entertaining the children. "Reynard" is a registered therapy dog and looks forward to all the attention he can give and receive. You can also visit "Julie", our mare and her baby "Jessie" as they make everyone smile with their silly antics and fun-loving spirits. Purvis, the resident peacock, will amaze you with a colorful display. After visiting with the animals, take a walk, dip your feet in the creek and eat your picnic lunch.
Cathy Watson, Thera-pets owner, has 15 years experience with animal rescue, care and facilitating animal therapy visits to nursing homes, hospitals, schools, community events, etc. Thera-pets is insured and we pride ourselves on providing a safe, interactive and memorable experience.
